"My living room is small, a corner sofa will not fit" is a common belief. In fact, the right corner sofa gives a small room more seating than a three-two-one arrangement, and makes the space look tidier.

Depth matters more than length

In a small room the real problem is not the length of the sofa but its depth. A model 95–100 cm deep eats the room; one 85–90 cm deep offers the same comfort in less space.

Raised models open the room up

Block-bodied models that sit on the floor read as heavy. On raised models with slim legs the floor stays visible, and the room feels more open.

Get the corner orientation right

Whether the corner should be left- or right-handed depends on where the doors and windows are. The wrong orientation blocks the walkway and makes the room smaller in practice. Note which way the door swings when you measure.

Do not overdo the back height

High-backed models can be comfortable, but in a small room they act like a wall and cut the space in two. A mid-height back keeps the room visually open.

Light colours and quiet textures

Light, plain fabrics reflect light and expand the space. Large patterns feel tiring in a small room; bringing pattern in through cushions is a more flexible solution.

Storage doubles the value

Storage is always tight in a smaller home. A corner sofa with a storage base swallows seasonal duvets and pillows, and removes the need for another cupboard.
